Welcome…

Hi! I’m Emily,

Welcome to my website, I’m happy to have you here.

This is a space highlighting my sense of call, journey towards pastoral leadership, and active reflections on life in ministry. I desire for this website to be a place for you as much as it is for me.

When people ask me, what does it mean to be a pastor? I smile and say— “it’s complex, being a pastor is a nuanced reality. I hold the tension of it being both a job as well as a vocational call. Pastoring is both work and worship.” I’d define “being a pastor” ultimately as a gift. My calling is an opportunity to love people and express uninhibited acceptance to all.

You’ll find in this website an invitation where ALL are welcome, whether you are an atheist or a devote believer. I desire to listen and engage with as many different voices as possible and grapple with the all to often oversighted “grey area” of spirituality.

We live in a polarized world where “either or” religion is rampant. There are a proliferation of “in and out” groups. I pray that you won’t find that here. I will make it explicit that I am not a moderate person, I do have a posture of progressive ideologies, however I try to not dismiss people who think differently than me. As a pastor I always want to have a posture of openness and curiosity. I believe that’s how Jesus was. Jesus listened and was curious to all voices. However, he also did call out empire and people who were leading other astray with alienation, false teachings, and subjugation.

Ultimately, I strive to be a follower of Jesus first and foremost. The early church were not called “Christians,” they were called “followers of The Way.” Hence Jesus’ attributed statement, “I am THE WAY, the truth and the life” (John 14:6).

For me, this statement is not a definition of saying Christianity is the only way to experience God, but a calling to walk in the way of Jesus… loving others, loving oneself, and loving God (Leviticus 19:18).

Join me on this journey of witnessing to pastoral life with all the challenges, joys, and reflections on being a leader of a Christian tribe in 2026. Let’s be followers of the Way together.

Peace and blessings to you, beloved!

Blessings (God’s favor & Protection) to you,
Rev. Emily Harris
